Queer Yoga with Candice

Through compassionate inquiry, supported by breath, mindfulness and gentle movement, this yoga series will focus on creating a space for queer folks to experience safety in their bodies, soothe the nervous system, and cultivate mental clarity. In this space, students will develop and explore the tools of yoga that nurture post traumatic growth, which is formed and nourished by their individual needs. Over 4 weeks we will gently move through a body-based practice, together. It is open to all levels, including beginners. The focus will be on:

  • Safe movement of the body, to promote strength and resiliency of body and mind.

  • Cultivating internal awareness of the body and mind

  • Developing empowerment and agency through choice making

  • Creating space to connect and build therapeutic community within the group.

Teacher Candice Baldwin is a 500 RYT, 200hr Himalayan Kriya Yoga teacher, Swing Yoga teacher, and Yoga Therapist  (C-IAYT). Her approach in yoga therapy and education is building a practice and educational environment around the needs of the people she serves, working with blind and partially sighted peoples, 50+ population and people living with injuries, trauma, neurodivergence and chronic illness.

NECK, SHOULDER, JAW, FACE and CRANIAL TENSION WORKSHOP

If you have ever done this workshop before you know that it can be very helpful and effective in resolving habitual neck and shoulder holding patterns, major neck tension (me), jaw tension (also me), and even tension in the muscles of the cranium and face. Once we start to relieve tension in one area, this can be a catalyst to relieve tension in others areas.

If you are new to this work, we systematically move through the spine, shoulder girdle, arms, neck jaw, face, and skull. These areas are interconnected and tension in one area can affect another. We use different size balls to do this. We will be laying on our back for the majority of the class. It can be a confronting in certain areas, but so very relieving and restful.

This work has been a huge help and a tool and my self-care toolbox.

Some people with chronic tension, migraines, headaches, fatigue, jaw tension, shoulder pain have significant found relief. Please note that I am not physio therapist or a medical professional. But, I have been working with my own chronic neck pain and tension for many years and offer this body of work to others. We safely work through the areas mentioned above. Laying on the ground for almost 2 hours of effortless sensing supports the parasympathetic nervous system to allow a feeling a deep rest.

Saturday, October 28th Workshop:

  1. The Anatomy of the myofascial deep front line.

  2. Core activating breath techniques.

  3. Ways you can align your core more effectively with the Earth.

  4. Yoga flows and myofascial ball rolling that will activate and release the core –  all the way from your feet to your jaw.

  5. Hands-on guidance, personalized instruction and body reading.

  6. Fun, interactive exercises to wake up your ‘earth to core’ connection in relationship.

  7. Contemplative practices to engage with what’s at the core of your core - YOU.

*Please note, the content covered in the two workshops are different. Although it’s not necessary to take them together, the 2nd workshop on November 4th will build upon the 1st, so it’s ideal if you do both. Saturday, November 4th Workshop:

  1. The subtler yogic anatomy of the energy systems (chakras) that reside along our core (Sushumna or central channel) and their corresponding connection to the nervous and endocrine systems in western anatomy.

  2. Breath and yoga asana techniques to enliven our connection to these centres.

  3. The invisible but scientifically established anatomy of the body’s electromagnetic or torus field and how it relates to our core.

  4. Simple do-able practices that we can use every day to stay ‘core connected’ all day and every day – no matter what is happening in our lives.

  5. Hands on guidance, personalized instruction and clear instruction.
